Plimoth Plantation’s Education Department provides programs suited for all grade levels, from pre-K and kindergarten all the way through grade 12. We offer programs taught by Native teachers, from the modern perspective of the Wampanoag, as well as programs taught by Colonial teachers from the perspective of a modern person or Pilgrim.
School groups visit Plimoth Plantation for Field Trips and spend time at our living history exhibit sites, including Mayflower II , the Wampanoag Homesite, 17th-Century English Village, Craft Center, and Nye Barn.
Hands-on Workshops are a great way to enhance the Plimoth Plantation experience and we also offer Winter Workshops from December through February. School groups may also book an overnight trip, visiting for two days, sleeping at the Museum, and participating in special evening activities.
Wampanoag (Native) and Colonial Museum teachers provide Classroom Visits all over the United States. For locations which require more than a three-hour drive we have Long-Distance Programs -- our teachers have traveled as far as California and Alaska! We also have Traveling Workshops, bringing Colonial games, music, and dance to the classroom.
School and University groups may also book one of our highly-skilled Professional Speakers. Topics vary according to the audience, and have included 17th-century Colonial Life, Colonial women, and cultural stereotypes.
The Education Department provides resources for students, including research materials, an interactive web program exploring Thanksgiving called You are the Historian, biographical information about the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag, and examples of artifacts in our collections.
We also offer professional development opportunities for teachers.
