The Buzz…

“The gorgeous floorboards creak -- loudly -- in the veteran French director Jacques Rivette's fascinating drawing-room war of the sexes.”
Owen Glieberman, Entertainment Weekly

“Handsomely produced and featuring fine performances, the film will travel well to festivals and art houses where audiences respond to classy period pieces with a modern sensibility.”
Ray Bennet, Hollywood Reporter

“No lavish costume drama, it's instead a theatrical dissection of the spiteful games lovers play.”
Jamie Russell, BBC

The Buzz…

“Despite its charged historical backdrop, [director] Luchetti keeps My Brother light and snappy without sacrificing narrative tension.”
Mark Holcomb, Time Out New York

“A fine and engaging study of two personalities, seemingly in sharp contrast, that prove awfully alike in the end.”
Kirk Honeycutt, Hollywood Reporter

“What makes My Brother Is an Only Child so alive and entertaining is how it dramatizes the endless tug-of-war between political conviction and personal experience -- the way the lines twist and blur and finally implode.”

Fri, May 9 - Thu, May 15 - "Married Life"

Married LifeA wry blend of dark humor, romantic deception, and stylish melodrama--with an invigorating dash of suspense--Married Life is an unconventional fable for grown-ups about the irresistible power and utter madness of love. Set in the 1940s Married Life, an impeccably acted chamber piece, also stars Pierce Brosnan and Rachel McAdams.

The Buzz...

... A stellar ensemble cast, and much of the pleasure of Married Life is watching the subtle detail the actors bring to their roles.
Moira MacDonald, Seattle Times

Married Life is an engaging romance noir, a sort of updated The Postman Always Rings Twice that packs its surprises into four characters, none of them predictable.
Desson Thomson, Washington Post

A playful riff on film noir that starts by upending every '40s movie cliché.
Dana Stevens Slate Magazine

“One of the unexpected delights of this year's New York Film Festival, a movie whose profundity sneaks up on you and wraps you in a soft embrace. Gives a vivid shape and vital intensity to daily life.”
Gene Seymour, Newsday

“In The Flight of the Red Balloon, the great Taiwanese filmmaker Hou Hsiao Hsien uses Albert Lamorisse’s 1956 masterpiece The Red Balloon as a springboard for his own masterpiece -- a distinctively modern and allusive one, yet so tender and plaintive that you understand what Hou is up to on a preconscious level.”
David Edlestein, New York Magazine

“If I see no film better than "The Flight of the Red Balloon" at Cannes this year, I'll leave a happy man…A work of tremendous precision and heartfelt emotion, made by one of the great artists in the medium.”

When Irene discovers his true identity, she dumps him, only to find that a smitten Jean has no intention of letting her get away.

The Buzz...

Stop laughing long enough, and you'll see that it's a picture about compromised lives and love for sale. But no one who watches Priceless will stop laughing for that long.

Pierre Salvadori's delightful comedy, picturesquely set in a series of posh hotels on the French Riviera, throws together two terrific comic actors and an irresistible premise.
