Over the next year, we will be recreating a 17th-century embroidered jacket. The Embroiderers' Story will chronicle its progress.

The Left Front

left front as of May 5Here’s another snapshot of a piece in progress. This is the left (as the wearer sees it) front, and was taken on May 5. The shallow curve at top left is the neckline; the deeper curve at right is the armhole.

The two fronts are the least-favored pieces to work because the frames are so wide. It’s hard to reach around the frames to work on the middle. Still, quite a bit has been done, and hopefully more will be added next weekend.

Hey, I recognize that piece, maybe because I worked on that bottom split pansy twice in April. I think it’s been mentioned in the blog that there are 4 different styles of pansies and this is the only place where #4 shows up.

Anyway, even after two days I haven’t finished it, though I admit I didn’t work 8 straight hours either day. This might give people a sense of how fussy and long it is to complete some pieces.

I’m not sure of my schedule next weekend but maybe I can come and finally finish it next Saturday.

How wide is the frame? The frame for my Japanese Embroidery is 16 inches wide and working on motifs in the center or slightly beyond is do-able but slightly uncomfortable. The more I see this, the more I yearn to cross the pond and stitch along with you. I’m sure I would learn so much and I would love to be able to say ’see that ???’, I stitched that.
