Over the next year, we will be recreating a 17th-century embroidered jacket. The Embroiderers' Story will chronicle its progress.

Forum’s Up

I was planning to address some of the questions in the recent comments, but Robbin has done an admirable and really thorough job. Thanks, Robbin. I was a little swamped, with opening and then a come-to-my-house holiday in the same weekend.

The bottom line on the session schedules is - we’re flexible. I am scheduling the lacers carefully to make sure that on each lacer’s first day one of our two mentors/moderators/detail people is able to come. Robbin and Carolyn have generously offered to help us all stay on the same page and keep the lace looking as much like one lacer made it as is possible. Other than knowing what your first day will be, we’re open to people coming in early, leaving early, skipping a day, coming later, what have you. If you have specific concerns, just let me know. If you’d like to come for only part of a weekend, let me know so I can try to get another lacer to work the pillow the other days. But really, not to worry. These weekends are supposed to be a special treat for you to devote uninterrupted time to work you love to do and enjoy a community of people working together to accomplish a major goal. Be easy.

Hey, we have another toy! I mean tool. But aren’t they the same, really? Rich has set up a forum for us. Look at the top right column for the link, and register and start a conversation. Thanks to Kar who asked for this opportunity, and thanks to Rich who jumped on the idea and made it happen. I wrote to him this afternoon, that if anyone had told me last year that by now I’d be blogging and have a forum and doing all these other techno-things I’m doing I simply wouldn’t have believed it. It’s good to learn new things.

I’m looking forward to Friday and Saturday, when Carolyn and Robbin will be setting things up for beginning the lace. I should have some handsome pictures, too. The hurdles are falling one by one.

Hi — I registered a user name, was sent a password by email, but I can’t log in no matter how I try. It looks pretty simple, so I can’t see what I might be doing wrong. Oh frustration!!

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Jill,
The Forum sounds like fun — but for those of us on Internet Explorer who still get all the error messages on the blog (is Rich going to get a chance to get it working for us?), there is no “upper right column” on the page. I believe instead you have to scroll all the way down past all the blog entries to find things at the bottom of the left column.

    Thanks,
    Alison

I managed to get in with the password that I was sent. Did you cut and paste it from your e-mail to make sure you didn’t confuse a letter? I ended up getting in with Netscape, which plays better with the blog than IE. The link is definitely at the bottom with Internet Explorer.

I also managed to get in with the password I was sent. I cut and paste from the email to be sure of matching case, etc.

When you suceed in logging on, you can change the password to one of your own choice by clicking on ‘view your profile’ then selecting ‘edit’.

I too managed with the password I was sent — but not with IE7. Mozilla did it fine. So there’s a word to the wise if anyone else has trouble. And thank you Robbin, for the tip. It’s a great facility, it will be nice “chatting” about the project.

    Hello everyone,

I’m sorry that I have not been able to resolve the IE bugs in a timely manner. As most of you are aware, we got this new WordPress blog up in a hurry a couple months ago because of unmanageable spam attacks in our old blog platform. The result is that I did a rough patch job to conform the blog to the look and feel of the Plimoth site at large and so as to avoid any down time.

IE is notorious for inexplicably ignoring web standards and it is a constant struggle for web developers to get it to play nice. But because so many people use IE, we try to develop web solutions that work with it. I spent a good deal of time trying to solve the IE issue today. Unfortunately, this particular instance has proven far more challenging than I had assumed it would be. I will eventually solve it, but it looks like I will have to rebuild the templates from the ground up. As I am a one person show here, this task is going to take me some time. I am sorry.

In the meantime, as many of you have suggested, Firefox works perfectly (all other anomalies are my mistake) and you’ll likely find it a far superior browser (because it is) and a more rewarding web surfing experience. You can download it for free at http://www.mozilla.com

    Thanks for your continued patience.

    Best
    –R.
