A Child's Life in Plymouth Colony

This winter workshop explores the work, play and education of children in Plymouth Colony. This comprehensive program provides a solid foundation for a unit on the Pilgrims. In this workshop students learn about the 17th century from the perspective of an historian and a Pilgrim.

The Winter Workshop program includes:

An extensive packet of classroom activities that introduces students to children's lives in the 17th century. Activities address topics such as clothing, houses, education, and games in Plymouth Colony. Most activities have a writing component which, when completed, form a student journal.

Classroom visit by a Pilgrim who will introduce students to the story and people of the 1620s in Plymouth Colony. Each class receives its own one-hour visit with a costumed colonial role-player at their school.

A hands-on workshop at Plimoth Plantation . In this two and a half-hour workshop, students participate in activities in both the 1627 English Village and the Visitor Center. In the Village, students are invited into several houses to work alongside the colonists. In the Visitor Center, students practice writing with quill pens and examine reproduction artifacts to determine what the objects reveal about the lives of children.

Cost: $900 per program plus mileage. Each class receives its own one-hour school visit by a costumed colonial role-player; both classes visit the museum together for their hands-on workshop.
