Look Who’s getting bigger!
Hey Everyone,
Here is the tobacco we planted in the green house at Plimoth Plantation they have got a little bigger from the last time I blogged. They are about a week from putting them into the ground and are three weeks old. We have some where around 340 tobacco plants to go in the ground. I don’t think we have had so much success in the past with planting tobacco, I am so happy that they are all doing so well. I don’t think people should smoke tobacco and abusing it today. I have quit smoking my self now for 18 months now, but I grow it for many reasons, like to gift it to Native people coming into the museum, these gifts are very important to me. This tabacco is not grown in many places today and is not easy to get today. The Wampanoag People used tobacco to pray and leave for offering to plants and animal we used. Native people would give gifts to any Natives that would come through there homes or homesites most time food and water was givin as a gift, but we at Plimoth Plantation cant do that today, so we give gift’s of Tobacco and thats just as nice I think. Hey Tim,
I know this is a bit off the tobacco topic, but Monday when I was helping to show the new interns around, you showed us a plant on the path between the Visitor Center and the Homesite. It is called “sweet” something and is used for repelling insects. Would you remind me of the name so I can look it up and possibly acquire some for myself; the insects, especially mosquitoes, love me, but I do not love them. Thank you so much!

Tim I noticed a new small garden this season near the fresh water pool. Is that the tobacco garden this year?

Hey steve,
Was it the one by the the half house when you come in to the site were bob sits most days? It might be were we planted the gourds but we planted the gourds there last year. Dose the area have metal hats on the mounds over were we have our fake spring if so that our gourds. We will plant the tabbaco tuesday night in the old area by the back garden in the area with sticks around it. I hope this helps.
